Kinder Morgan Canada’s
EHS Management System
KMC's Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Management System is an integrated framework based on ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, and CSA Z1000-06 standards. It describes how the company does work in a way that minimizes risk to its employees, contractors, the public and the environment. The management system structure emphasizes the importance of EHS impact prevention and continuous performance improvement, rather than reaction and management of loss occurrences.
EHS excellence is as much a part of competitiveness as other business capabilities. Through implementation of the management system, KMC will reduce liability by ensuring compliance with regulatory and other requirements, control costs and promote EHS stewardship. This demonstrates KMC’s commitment to EHS excellence by ensuring the necessary resources, skills, processes and controls are in place.
Successful management systems focus on the achievement of performance objectives and reduction of risk at the line level where the work and day to day operating decisions are made and executed. Clarity of expectations, with a focus on EHS excellence, is a gateway to engage all personnel in continuous improvement processes enabling them to be valuable contributors to KMC’s competitive business advantage. In addition to defining management’s EHS expectations, the management system also establishes processes to assign accountability, continuously measure and improve performance, and ensure that a systematic approach and effective management of issues is sustained.
