Right-of-Way

Plantation Pipe Line Company holds easements or written agreements with landowners that allow us to operate and maintain our pipelines through the landowner's property. A change in ownership of the property does not alter the agreement. The easement gives us the right to access the pipeline area or "right-of-way". Plantation's right-of-way must remain free of encroachments such as trees, buildings, concrete slabs, swimming pools, and other structures to ensure the safety of the public, the environment, and the pipeline.

Since the pipelines are buried underground, the line markers are used to show their approximate location. Markers are located at public roads, rail crossings, and many other points along the pipeline route. These line markers list the product transported, the name of the pipeline operator, and a telephone number where someone can be reached at all times. Defacing, damaging, or destroying a line marker willfully and knowingly is a federal offense. Violators may receive a $5,000 fine and/or 1 year imprisonment.
