Kinder Morgan is one of the largest natural gas transporters and storage operators in the United States. We transport up to 18 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) of natural gas through approximately 24,000 miles of gas pipelines in the Rocky Mountains, the Midwest and Texas. We also have working gas storage capacity of about 400 billion cubic feet.
Key assets in this business segment include the Texas Intrastate Pipeline Group (Texas is the largest producer and consumer of natural gas in the United States), Natural Gas Pipeline Company of America (which serves the high-demand Chicago market) and the new Rockies Express-West Pipeline (which currently transports natural gas from Wyoming to eastern Missouri).
In 2009, we will complete three large natural gas pipeline projects that are revolutionizing how gas will be transported in the United States. Rockies Express-East is currently in various stages of construction and is expected to be fully in service to eastern Ohio in the fourth quarter. When completed, the Rockies Express Pipeline will stretch 1,679 miles and have a capacity of about 1.8 Bcf/d. The Midcontinent Express Pipeline is fully operational and the Kinder Morgan Louisiana Pipelines was completed and commenced service in June.
