Administrative Assistant - Burnaby

Applications are invited from Kinder Morgan Canada for the above position reporting to the Western Region Pipeline Protection Supervisor. This position will provide administrative support to the regional Pipeline Protection group.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintain electronic and hard copy files related to pipeline crossings, One Calls, preliminary locates, variances, unauthorized activities, and pipeline patrols.
  • Administer the public awareness damage prevention program by developing annual communication plans, coordinating production of damage prevention materials, arranging presentations with stakeholders, maintaining damage prevention files and stakeholder contact reports, and completing annual reports of damage prevention activities.
  • Perform financial administration tasks such as invoice coding, procurement card coding, employee expenses, new vendor setup, and procurement activities.
  • Assist with budgeting, tracking of costs, and spending forecasts.
  • Maintain department files including vehicles, equipment, safety meetings, supplies, staff vacations, on call lists, phone lists, personnel, etc.
  • Coordinate office services and office equipment maintenance for Pipeline Protection.
  • Maintain and order office supplies.
  • Participate in emergency response exercises and incidents as required.
  • Coordinate meeting and travel arrangements for the Pipeline Protection group.
  • Provide vacation coverage as necessary for the Burnaby Office Administration Assistant.
  • Other projects as directed by the supervisor.

Requirements and Qualifications:

Our ideal candidate will have a Grade 12 education. A Diploma in a communications or technical related field would be an asset.

  • Experience in a communications based role would be beneficial.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in an administrative support role in the oil and gas field or other industrial environment.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Detail oriented.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize work with minimum supervision.
  • Self motivated.
  • Proficiency in document control and maintaining electronic and paper filing systems.

Account Analyst – Calgary – Temporary (13 months)

Job Responsibilities:

  • processes bank transactions and completes monthly account reconciliations,

Requirements and Qualifications:

Senior Electrical Engineer - Calgary

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership for electrical design, operation, and maintenance at KMC.
  • Responsible for managing the annual electrical permits for Alberta and BC
  • Conduct arc flash studies, coordination studies, and inspection and quality assurance of electrical work completed under annual electrical permits in BC and Alberta.
  • Manage multidisciplinary capital and maintenance projects with the main focus on electrical projects.
  • Provide technical support for operations on electrical issues, from substations through to loads including switch gear, motor control centers, rotating equipment, large and small distribution systems.
  • Represent KMC on technical issues in dealings with utility companies and other third-party suppliers.
  • Provide oversight to the KMC electrical maintenance program including procedure development, training, and the management of periodic audits.
  • This position will require occasional travel..

Manager, Maintenance – Vancouver Wharves

Location: North Vancouver, B.C.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all mechanical and electrical safety of Terminal’s equipment.
  • Directs, coordinates and oversees the planning and work performed by subordinate ILWU Foremen, Mechanics and Electricians including electrical installations, troubleshooting, upgrading, repair, and maintenance of marine bulk and liquids Terminal equipment.
  • Responsible for ensuring Terminal compliance with all Corporate and Environmental regulations and with BCMEA, HRSDC, VFPA, District of North Vancouver Fire Department, WorkSafeBC, Transport Canada and other regulating agencies.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

  • Directs and coordinates duties of the maintenance Superintendents who supervise union employees performing maintenance and repair work on all terminal material handling equipment, structures, wharfs, utilities, electrical systems, control system and grounds.
  • Maintains all environmental equipment in optimum operating condition to meet all applicable environmental permit requirements. Maintains adequate maintenance staffing levels and is responsible for motivating and increasing the morale of the department.
  • Provides input into any projects that will impact maintenance activities. Liaises with KMVWL engineering to ensure all drawings/specifications for new projects or enhancement work meet the requirements of the maintenance department. Ensures all drawings are kept current including as-builts.
  • Reviews all purchases of mechanical and electrical tools, equipment, replacement parts, consumable supplies, and other materials required for efficient and effective Terminal operation.
  • Directs, coordinates, updates, documents and tracks mechanical and electrical predictive and preventative maintenance programs to provide maximum Terminal operating efficiency and performance.
  • Analyzes and keeps historical records of the structural integrity of all mechanical equipment and operating systems and all electrical equipment and control systems.
  • Develops work scopes which identify and accurately describe Terminal repair needs.
  • Learns, understands, follows and enforces all applicable safety and environmental rules, regulations and policies. Immediately corrects deficiencies investigates and immediately corrects injury threatening unsafe acts and/or conditions. Timely corrects non-injury-threatening conditions as first priority of work accomplishment.
  • Develops training programs for maintenance personnel and specific process procedures for equipment operation.
  • Develops and implements sound management practices that control costs of labor, materials and vendor inventories ensuring quality, price, and service criteria are met.
  • Participates in the development of a comprehensive plan for each year’s general operations, maintenance and capital budgets.
  • Develops implements and maintains work schedules that do not interfere with Terminal’s cargo handling schedules.
  • Organizes, forecasts, and prepares work orders and acquires required materials prior to assigning work.
  • Knowledgeable of organized labor contract, area agreements and supplements to effectively deal with contract labor issues.
  • Empowers, coaches, and develops employees to reach decisions to achieve or meet Kinder Morgan organizational standards and objectives when applicable.
  • Projects a “Terminal First” attitude and responds in a courteous manner to operational demands and customer inquiries.
  • Performs all work within established Terminal standards while maintaining the integrity of specific cargo, relevant operations, workers, and Terminal equipment.
  • Ensures 3% or less mechanical downtime when handling cargo.
  • Ensures 2% or less electrical downtime when handling cargo.
  • Evaluates Terminal procedures, recommending improvements and developing and implementing them to ensure optimum protection and maintenance of facility assets.


Requirements and Qualifications:

Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, coupled with at least 10 years of industrial mechanical maintenance experience is required. Knowledge in structural design and analysis, as well as at least 5 years’ experience in a lead or supervisory position is a must. General electrical and PLC knowledge troubleshooting motors and controls is also required.

  • Proficient with computer applications, including Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, Outlook, AutoCAD.
  • Highly-developed communication and leadership skills, complimented with a professional approach for problem-solving in a team environment of co-workers, clients, vendors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Highly-developed organizational skills, including prioritization and accountability of tasks, as well as a strong focus for attention to detail.
  • Position subject to 24-hour call-out, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • 50% of work is performed indoors and 50% of work is performed outdoors. Outdoor conditions consists of hazards including exposure to situations with a definite risk of bodily injury, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, moving machinery, and working in high places. Other typical hazards include noise, vibration, poor ventilation and dust.
  • Climatic conditions may include severe seasonal changes including both winter conditions with frequent snow or extreme summer heat and sun.

Manager, Safety and Security – Vancouver Wharves

Location: North Vancouver, B.C.

Job Responsibilities:

Working closely with operations, maintenance, engineering and environment in the development and implementation of effective health and safety programs, this individual would provide leadership to promote and sustain safe work practices among the Longshore personnel (both Local 500 and Local 514) as it relates to the Company.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

  • Develops an annual safety and training plan; establish annual goals to meet site and KMVWL targets.
  • Develops and manages the safety and training budget.
  • Ensures health and safety programs are implemented and monitored.
  • Reviews site and Port health and safety statistics for trending and accuracy.
  • Communicates health and safety concerns/issues to upper management and teams with management to provide solutions/resolutions.
  • Reviews health and safety legislation and ensures site compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Provides health and safety support to Operations and Maintenance and to site project teams/contractors when required.
  • Manages and coordinates audit and inspection programs.
  • Interfaces/liaises with BCMEA, HRSDC, VFPA, District of North Vancouver Fire Department, WorkSafeBC, Transport Canada and other regulating agencies.
  • Investigates accidents/injuries to affect control over Worker’s Compensation costs.
  • Participates in Industry Joint Safety Committee and Safety Specialists meetings.
  • Participates in VFPA Security Stakeholders meetings.
  • Must be available on an “on-call” basis to respond to phone calls or personally attend site emergencies and safety situations.
  • Makes regular and unscheduled visits to site locations to conduct inspections and assure irregularities are addressed and properly documented.
  • Monitors safety performance indicators and gathers relevant statistics and information for preparing compliance and occupational health and safety performance reports for management.
  • Active participation in Site Committees (co-chairs site Safety meetings, Incident/Accident Review Committee, etc.).
  • Serves as Access Control Officer for the site and works with KMVWL and outside contract personnel to keep the site security plan updated, relevant, and compliant with Transport Canada requirements.
  • Facilitates and organizes personnel training on health, safety and fire related topics such as WHMIS, Right-to-Know, confined space entry, fall protection, accident investigation, knowledge of Part II of the Code and Safety Representative training.
  • Coordinates and participates in industrial hygiene exposure monitoring programs (e.g. noise level and lighting surveys, ergonomics, dust level exposure etc.) and special projects, as required.
  • Manages and Supervises site security and participates in review of performance and establishing work objectives – BC Corps of Commissionaires.


Requirements and Qualifications:

Degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent area of study or experience. Preferable to be registered as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or equivalent.

Minimum ten years of progressively responsible safety experience in an industrial setting. Knowledge of applicable occupational health and safety regulations, construction safety, loss control and industrial hygiene practices demonstrated through previous job responsibilities.

Job Responsibilities:

General administrative and reception duties including the screening and directing phone calls and mail, limited environmental compliance documentation, preparing sales and marketing materials, maintaining records and files, preparing memos and reports, ordering and stocking office supplies, care of office machines and computers, and supporting administration throughout the office/terminal.

  • Verifies and conducts the quality analysis on all products received and shipped,
  • Provides meter readings for verification and data entry,

Requirements and Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years oil/gas experience in an operating or scheduling capacity. High school graduation is required with preference given to candidates with education in oil/gas technology or other technical fields. Mechanical experience would be considered an asset. An equivalent of industry experience and education will also be considered. Good mathematical and analytical ability, in addition to a basic understanding of liquid hydraulics are required. The successful candidate will require exceptional communication skills as well as the ability to function independently and as part of a team.
